STEVEN MCKINNON

I know you have been wondering what Steven looked like. This past Saturday I took some pictures of pictures that his mother had displayed. This one was taken on Steven & Tina's wedding day approximately 14 years ago. What struck us when we saw it is Tina's head against his chest. The week before we saw this picture is when we met Tina and took the picture of her listening to Steven's heart in Vernon's chest. Wow!
This picture of Steven was taken one Christmas. We have learned that he liked to dress up as Santa and distribute gifts at the Russell Home for Atypical Children here in Orlando. The home has been in continuous operation for over 50 years without any government support. It is the only private, non-profit facility of its kind for severely handicapped children in Central Florida. Mrs. Russell took in many children and showed them love and care. It is just a few miles from us. Steven's brother, Scott, is planning a fundraiser in Steven's memory to benefit the Russell Home.
This picture of Steve with a bass he caught and released was taken just a short time before his death. He was painting at a home on Lake George (near where we live) and took some time to fish one day while waiting for the homeowners to return. They were shocked that he was successful in catching this because "no one" had ever caught a fish in that lake. So that is why they took the picture. They came to Steven's memorial and brought copies of this picture to give the family. You'll see this ball cap and the sunglasses in another picture.
Esther McKinnon proudly displays one of Steven's work t-shirts. He took pride in painting and would not use a sprayer because it did not cover as well or do as good a job as painting by hand.
Esther showed us this sideboard that displays pictures of Steven and some of his possessions. You'll notice two of the above pictures are displayed on it plus the ball cap and sunglasses. Steven's ashes are in the round wooden container in the center. A fisherman is carved in the lid. It was chosen because he loved to fish. Reflections of Esther and Vernon are in the mirror.
